Initial Certification

Researcher certification consists of an initial certification process and a continuing education program.

Before research can be approved, researchers (and if they are students, their advisors) must complete the on-line module "History and Ethical Principles" at the web site of the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI*) at the University of Miami.

When you go to the CITI* site:

  1. Use the "Log in through my institution" option and click on "Log in via SSO"
  2. Select Duke University, Non-Medical Research (item #11 on the list)
  3. Log in using your Duke netID and password
  4. Complete the "History and Ethical Principles" module

When you have completed the module and passed the quiz, CITI* will notify the IRB* office.  We will then enter the date you completed the module in your transcript.

If you completed training programs or on-line modules at another institution before coming to Duke, let us know. We may be able to give you credit here.
