Haiyan Gao of Physics has received an award from the Los Alamos National Laboratory for a project entitled ''Engineering Design of Subsystems for the Neutron Electron Dipole Moment (nEDM) Mod #3.'' Total funding will be $20,000 over 9 months.

Renate M. Houts of Psychology and Neuroscience has received an award from the Research Triangle Institute for a project entitled ''NICHD* Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development.'' Total funding will be $77,451 over 11 months.

Robert B. Jackson of Biology has received a Dissertation Improvement Grant from the National Science Foundation for graduate student John H. Kim, for a project entitled “Biological and economic tradeoff of carbon and water with land- use changes in grasslands.'' Total funding will be $15,000 over 24 months.

Paula McClain of Political Science has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled ''REU* Site: Ralph Bunche Summer Institute.'' Total funding will be $404,521 over 36 months.

Anthony So of Public Policy Studies has received an award from the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative for a project entitled ''Conceptualizing Alternative IP* Management Strategies for R&D for Neglected Diseases.'' Total funding will be $48,671 over 12 months.

Richard S. Surwit of Psychology and Neuroscience has received an award from the National Institutes of Health for a project entitled ''Prospective Effects of Pychosocial Factors on Bariatric Surgical Success.'' Total funding will be $75,701 over 24 months.

John E. Thomas of Physics has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled ''Trapped Fermi gases as models of strongly interacting matter.'' Total funding will be $20,000 over 1 month.

Gennifer Weisenfeld of Art, Art History, and Visual Studies has received an award from the National Humanities Center for a project entitled ''Imaging Disaster: Visual Culture in Japan after the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake.'' Total funding will be $35,000 over 9 months.

Grant A. Wacker of Divinity Faculty has received an award from the Association of Theological Schools for a project entitled ''Billy Graham's America." Total funding will be $64,175 over 14 months.

Douglas P. Nowacek of the Marine Laboratory has received an award from the Office of Naval Research for a project entitled ''Prey Fields and habitats of deep diving odontocetes: 3D characterization and modeling of beaked and sperm whale foraging areas in the Tongue of the Ocean.'' Total funding will be $60,250 over 16 months.

Andrew J. Read of the Marine Laboratory has received an award from NC Sea Grant for a project entitled ''Foraging behavior of pilot whales in the Cape Hatteras Special Research Area.'' Total funding will be $46,463 over 12 months.

Daniel Rittschof of the Marine Laboratory has received an award from NC Sea Grant for a project entitled ''Genetic and Environmental Contributions to Body Size in Blue Crabs.'' Total funding will be $18,933 over 12 months.

Cindy L. Van Dover of the Marine Laboratory has received an award from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for a project entitled ''Oases for Life in Distant Oceans: Hydrothermal Exploration Using Advanced Robotic Techniques.'' Total funding will be $118,181 over 48 months.

April Brown of Electrical Engineering has received an award from the University of Wisconsin for a project entitled ''Revolutionary Substrate for Advanced Electronic and Optoelectronic Devices.'' Total funding will be $286,688 over 14 months.

Chuan-Hua Chen of Mechanical Engineering has received an award from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled ''Electrohydrodynamic Coulter Counting.'' Total funding will be $400,000 over 59 months.

Stefano Curtarolo of Mechanical Engineering has received an award from Stanford University for a project entitled ''Materials for Nuclear Detection.'' Total funding will be $3,418 over 12 months.

Richard B. Fair of Electrical Engineering has received an award from the National Institutes of Health for a project entitled ''Continuous Sequencing-By-Synthesis Based on a Digital Microfluidic Platform.'' Total funding will be $1,196,500 over 15 months.

Nan M. Jokerst of Electrical Engineering has received an award from iRobot Corporation for a project entitled ''Hydrophobic, Non-Fouling, Non-Hazardous Coatings for Periscope Head Windows (Periscope Head Window Coating).'' Total funding will be $5,225 over 2 months.
